Contra Costa County Clerk’s Office to Offer Costumed Wedding Ceremonies Friday

Halloween enthusiasts can tie the knot with a costumed officiant in the East Bay Friday, as the Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder’s Office hosts its annual Halloween-themed “Scaremonies.”

The Halloween-themed ceremonies will take place this Friday at the Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder’s Office in Martinez. Couples who prefer a more traditional ceremony can also request an officiant wearing robes, as Contra Costa News reports.

Clerk-Recorder and Commissioner of Civil Marriages Kristin B Connelly told the outlet that some couples go all-in on the theme for the annual event.

“Customers really enjoy dressing up for Halloween weddings, and our costumed staff are happy to help liven the ceremonies up,” said Connelly, speaking to Contra Costa News.

NBC Bay Area covered the event in 2023, when 18 people showed up. The outlet featured a couple dressed as Sally and Jack Skellington from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas for their wedding ceremony. They selected an officiant dressed as Oogie Boogie, the film’s villain.

The Clerk-Recorder’s Office, at 555 Escobar Street in Martinez, will offer ceremonies between 8:20 am and 3:30 pm Friday, according to Contra Costa News. A limited number of appointments reportedly remain available, and walk-ins will be accepted until 3:30 pm.

Couples must obtain a marriage license before the ceremony, which can be purchased at the office during their appointment. Those interested in booking a ceremony can call the Clerk-Recorder’s Office at (925) 335-7900.
