A Floresville man was sentenced Tuesday to 18 years in federal prison for distributing child sexual abuse material through the messaging app Kik, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas.
Jose Carvajal Jr., 54, was sentenced in federal court in San Antonio to 216 months in prison, U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons announced in a news release.
According to court documents, Carvajal sent child sexual abuse material to others in a Kik group and bragged about sexually assaulting a young child. Prosecutors said he had been part of the group for more than six years.
The FBI identified and arrested Carvajal and discovered that he had sexually touched a child and taken pictures of them showering without their knowledge, according to the release. A forensic review of his phone found hundreds of images and videos showing prepubescent children in sexually explicit conduct, prosecutors said.
Carvajal was sentenced to lifetime supervision and ordered to forfeit the items used to commit the offense. In addition to prison time, Jose Carvajal Jr. will pay $35,000 to seven victims.
