The Houston-area communities offer a range of options for people planning their retirement, from suburban neighborhoods and shopping to parks, restaurants and access to health care.
U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 850 cities for its 2026 rankings, expanding its analysis from 150 cities in the previous edition.
The publication used six categories to assess retirement destinations: quality of life, value, health care quality, retiree taxes, the senior population and migration trends, and the local job market.
The rankings were weighted based on a survey of about 3,500 Americans ages 45 and older who identified the factors most important to them when choosing where to retire.
The results offer a starting point for people comparing potential retirement destinations, although individual costs, access to medical care and lifestyle preferences can vary by community.
