Man Driving Recklessly Sentenced for Fatal Crash in Central Florida

A man driving recklessly at speeds up to 147 MPH was sentenced for a double fatal crash in Central Florida.

During a recent hearing, Volusia County defendant Scott March was sentenced to 47 years in prison for two counts of Vehicular Homicide and two counts of DUI Manslaughter.

On November 1, 2025, March was driving recklessly on State Road A1A in Volusia County. He was going 147 MPH just seconds before the crash and 110 MPH when he attempted to pass another vehicle in a designated no-passing zone. March hit the rear of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.

The driver of the vehicle died at the scene. The passenger died from her injuries at the hospital.

The toxicology report showed that the defendant had a blood alcohol level of approximately 0.13% at the time of the deadly crash, well above the legal limit of 0.08%.

“Two people are dead because the defendant chose to drive in a reckless and intoxicated state,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. “Forty-seven years in prison cannot bring them back, but it does send a clear message to drunk drivers that you will pay dearly for your criminal transgressions.”

The Florida Highway Patrol and State Attorney Investigators investigated the Central Florida case. Assistant State Attorney Ashley Terwilleger successfully prosecuted the case for the State of Florida. The Honorable Christian Miller heard the case and imposed sentence. In August, he entered no contest pleas to two counts of Vehicular Homicide and two counts of DUI Manslaughter.
